This is the race that got me started. In November 2008 I was training for the P.F. Chang Rock & Roll Marathon to be run in January 2009. I really didn’t like the training, running on the road or running in general for that matter. I read an article in the local paper about an upcoming ultra marathon called the Javelina Jundred, so on the day of the run I made the 8 miles trip from my house see how people could possibly run 100+ miles when I wasn’t confident I’d be able to do a 26.2 mile marathon. Within one hour I was so excited I could hardly stand it. This is exactly what I needed to be doing. It didn’t matter that I hadn’t completed the marathon distance yet or even if I could, I knew I some day had to do this 100 mile run. I’ve thought of this every day I run since 2008, this year I’m going to do it.
Run on a 15.4 mile loop course (total distance 101.4 miles) the Javelina Jundred starting line is 8 miles from my front door. Runners come from all over the United States and around the World to do this run, I can run to the starting line to warm up. Over the past 2 years I’ve run this trail at least 100 times, some days twice.
